Unlocking Your Creativity

First of all, what is creativity?

Creativity can be defined as the use of imagination or original ideas to create something. For example, when the first cell phone was made, that was a form of creativity. It was something new, something that no one had ever seen before. Or more recently, the new Apple watch that was just launched. It was fresh and original, something that was never done before. When we are able to come up with our own ideas and concepts, that is creativity at work. Creativity is the form in which we use to express ourselves.
“So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them”. – Genesis 1:27
We were all created in the image of God as the scripture says. God is the Creator of the universe. He created the heavens and the earth in all of their beauty and splendor and guess what? That very same creative power was deposited in us! From the very beginning, we were given the ability to create. Isn’t that awesome? When God formed and shaped us, He gave each and every one of us something unique and something special. He gave us our very own ability to create.
Here is another scripture that tells us about creativity.
“And he has filled him with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge and with all kinds of skills to make artistic designs for work in gold, silver and bronze, to cut and set stones, to work in wood and to engage in all kinds of art”. - Exodus 35:31-33
We are called to create because it was a task assigned to us by God. Creativity is a gift. Although expressing creativity may be harder for some, it does not mean the ability to create something is not there. Our creativity may be different from someone else’s, but it does not mean that one is more important or better than the other. We were uniquely fashioned by God, therefore our ways of expressing creativity are prone to be different.

To uncover something, means to expose it to view, by removing a cover.
Sometimes our creativity can be covered by so many different things. It could be our own fears and expectations. It could be the lack of confidence in ourselves and in our gifts. Our creativity can also be smothered by the opinions of men. We might be holding back what is inside of us because we don’t feel like it would be good enough in the eyes of others. However, we cannot live in that imprisonment. The time is now to UNLOCK YOUR CREATIVITY; that which God has placed on the inside of YOU!
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving”. - Colossians 3:23-24
We must remember who has given us our creativity and use our gifts to worship the Creator Himself. Our creativity is our ministry. Do not underestimate the power that your creations can possess. The song you wrote could be the reason why someone didn’t give up today. The painting you drew could bring smiles to the faces of others. NEVER think that what you have on the inside is useless.
I remember when I first started my business called Finesse Designs. I had no clue of what I was actually doing. I knew that I just had this passion to create something with my hands. While I was in both primary and secondary school, I did do a bit of art, but I never concentrated on it to a great extent. Then one day, I was watching some videos on YouTube about doing DIY projects and from that moment, my creativity was unleashed. I was inspired to create and you can be too. I am not saying that you should go and watch videos but a good place to start is by finding something that you love doing.
Different things inspire different people, nonetheless inspiration is for everyone. From just looking at creation and nature to reading a poem, inspiration can be found. Now, when I create stuff, the impact that is made in the lives of others is priceless to me and that is one thing that inspires me to continue.
So what now?
Uncover your creativity! Embrace the talents and the gifts that God has placed on the inside of you. There is an element of creativity in you that this world needs. Whether it is dancing, playing an instrument, photography or fashion. You have too much creative power on the inside of you not to share it with others. Don’t be afraid, believe in yourself and let your creativity shine through.
Be Creative. Be You.
